Finding an HVAC contractor for your Orlando home may seem like a big headache, but it doesn’t mean to be. By using a few professional tips and a little common sense, your choice may be a lot easier than you may think. Follow these 10 pointers and you can’t go wrong:

  1. Be aware of your equipment — If you know your equipment’s model number and any problems you’ve had in the past, a contractor will find it easier to ascertain your needs.
  2. Ask people you know — You can often find a reputable HVAC contractor easily by asking friends, family, and co-workers for a referral.
  3. Check references — A quality contractor should have nothing to hide. Ask to see a list of references, then call each person to find out his or her personal experience with the company.
  4. Ensure NATE certification — You should only utilize a contractor who has been certified by NATE (North American Technician Excellence), which performs rigorous testing.
  5. Look at online reviews — In this day and age, online reviews can be a powerful tool to help you get a feel for how a contractor operates.
  6. Inquire about special offers — HVAC contractors will often have discounts on certain services throughout the year. It never hurts to ask and can save you a good amount of money.
  7. Expect an evaluation — To find out about your personal heating and cooling needs, a home evaluation should be performed right away.
  8. Energy Star recommendations — The installation of heating and cooling equipment that has been backed by Energy Star should be recommended by any contractor who truly understands the need for better energy efficiency.
  9. Obtain the Energy Star guide — To further understand the need for an Energy Star recommendation, check out the guide on their website.
  10. Tell other people — If you’re happy with the experience you receive, be sure to tell people about it so that others can benefit.
