Is Tankless Water Heating For You?

If you enjoy a readily flow of continuous hot water and would like to save substantially on water heating costs, then a tankless water heating system may be for you.

Tankless water heaters heat water as it’s called for from a faucet or hot-water application. There is no energy-wasting storage tank. In storage-tank systems, stored water must be heated and reheated to recoup standby heat losses, which accounts for up to 75 percent of total water heating costs. In fact, you may save as much as 50 percent water heating costs with a tankless system. In addition to energy savings, tankless systems offer these benefits.

  • Durable design: Tankless systems are designed to last about 20 years, and even longer. That’s nearly twice the lifespan of typical storage tanks. A tankless system costs more initially to install, but the longevity of the tankless system, combined with its high energy efficiency, more than compensates for the initial investment.
  • Versatility: Tankless units are available in large units for multiple hot-water applications, medium-sized units for two applications, and small shoe-box sized units that can provide hot water for one outlet. By opting for a combination of tankless units specific to your outlets, you receive hot water faster, and more cost-effectively. In addition, if one unit needs repair, you have your other tankless units to access. Tankless units are also excellent boosters, providing hot water for outdoor sinks, pool house and spas, remote bathrooms, and more.
  • Hot water supply: With a properly sized tankless water heating system, you won’t run out of hot water, like storage systems sometimes do. Your household’s tankless system needs are measured by each hot-water application’s flow rate (gallons per minute), your total household’s flow rate, and the temperature rise, which is the degree incoming water requires heating. A heating and cooling pro can assist you for accurate system sizing.
